Black-Governed, Black-Led Schools (BGBLS) Support
This is BE NOLA’s core work. We provide financial resources and professional development resources to ensure quality BGBLS have access to the supports of accountability needed to drive toward K-12, postsecondary, and workforce readiness outcomes so these schools become strong and self-sustaining. When necessary, we partner with struggling schools that have been flagged for transformation to engage in a deep community engagement process with the school’s stakeholders that grows their capacity as advocates for quality education.
Black Educator Support
We focus on positively impacting the recruitment and retention of Black educators in our system in ways that benefit BGBLS. This includes partnering with organizations on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness strategies to help foster a supportive climate for New Orleans Black educators and the policy and practice changes needed to help them thrive.
Black Educator Gatherings
We hold space for leaders of BGBLS and other Black educators and supporters to regularly come together to strengthen connections, engage in Black-centered professional development, and foster the conditions for strategic collaboration and advocacy from a strength-based foundation.
